Kenya Police FC continued their unbeaten streak as they saw off struggling Mathare United 2-1 in a wet affair at Ruaraka Grounds.Marquee signings earlier in the campaign Duke Abuya and Clifton Miheso scored for Police as Danson Kago grabbed the consolation for Mathare.Even before the match started, the heavens had threatened to open up and they made true just seven minutes in the game. What started as light showers quickly turned to a heavy downpour, prompting the referee to interrupt play as both sets of players and technical bench members together with the match officials sought shelter. After a 35-minutes stoppage, the teams returned to the soggy Ruaraka Grounds after the match officials inspected the playing surface and were satisfied that it was playable.Clinton Kinanga had the first real attempt at goal from a corner cross but his effort went over the bar. He would have another such chance in the same half and still blasted it over the bar.Danson Kago opened scoring for the hosts, heading home a Jackson Juma cross to give his side the lead 30 minutes in the game.Police still attempted to play their beautiful touch and go football in the water-logged ground but Mathare chose to hit them on the counter, hitting the ball long and avoiding the wet areas.Upon resumption, Police came back with an aim off finding a goal that would get them back to the game.Five minutes into the second half, Duke Abuya leveled the score for Police with a well taken strike after Kinanga’s initial headed effort had been saved by Byrne Omondi on goal.At the stroke of the hour mark, Ezekiel Akwana was the first to make a change as he brought John Mwangi for Daniel Otieno as Bobby Ogolla responded by bringing in Alvin Mangeni for John Mark Makwatta who was totally missing throughout the hour.Mangeni had an impact just moments after coming on as he won a penalty for Police after being brought down in the box.Clifton Miheso stepped up to take the resultant spotkick, making no mistake as he buried it in the net to give Police the lead and extend his tally to nine goals for the season, continuing his lead at the summit of the scorers’ chart.Mathare assumed the chase, and Akwana rested his goal scorer Kago for Kennedy Ochieng.Moments later Police withdrew Miheso and Kinanga for Aryne Odoyo and David Oluoch as they sought to seal the game.Douglas Koech had the ball in the net in stoppage time but his goal wouldn’t stand as he was adjuged to have been offside.
