French-bound custodian Lilian Awuor Onyango is delighted to finally land a chance to play professional football after sealing a move to ASJ Soyaux-Charente commonly known as Soyaux Women Football Club that plays in the top tier in France.The heroic goalkeeper is set to fly out today and will be joining the top division side on a two-and-a-half-year deal, which could possibly see her stay at the club until 2024.Ahead of her expected departure, Awuor is happy for managing to play pro and remains thankful to Vihiga Queens’s management as well as to her teammates at the club.“I am so delighted that finally my dream of playing professional football is coming true. I thank my teammates and management of Vihiga Queens for all the support,” Onyango is quoted by Vihiga Queens.Her former side, Vihiga Queens, organized a farewell party for her on Saturday evening that brought together the playing unit, the technical bench, and the management to thank the custodian and wish her well at her new station.“As Vihiga Queens, we shall forever be grateful to Lilian for her services to our club and we take this opportunity to wish her the very best as she continues her professional football career in France,” the club stated.Awuor received myriad offers from clubs following her spectacular display at the inaugural CAF Women Champions League in Egypt despite her team exiting the competition at the group stageShe was one of the Kenyan players who stood out in the tournament, being named Woman of the match in the first game against Mamelodi Sundowns despite Queens losing the game, and was equally outstanding in the second match against FAR Rabat as the Kenyan representatives won the game 2-0.Against Rivers Angels in the last group match, she kept Queens in the game before they finally cracked after the hour mark. Before then, she was also phenomenal at the CECAFA region qualifiers and will be hoping to continue the same form in Europe.
