Kenyan international Ian Otieno bagged another clean sheet as his side Zesco United saw off Indeni FC 1-0 in a Zambian league match on Friday afternoon at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium. This was the third consecutive game that Zesco were winning without conceding a game, having beaten Chambishi and Kabwe Warriors by a similar scoreline in their previous two games.Prior to this match, the league defending champions had recorded two consecutive victories and a loss since the opening of the second half of the league season, losing only to Red Arrows at the beginning of the year. The first half was quite a dull one for both teams, with none of the two managing to break the deadlock in the first period.John Ching’andu scored the all-important goal 69 minutes in the game on the third attempt for the Zambian giants, the initial attempt from a freekick hitting the woodwork, Simon Silwimba heading towards the goal but being denied by Joshua Titima, and Ching’andu heading home finally. The former AFC Leopards custodian was called to action a couple of times, the most outstanding one being in the 20th minute of the fist half keep away a strike by Indeni FC that had a slight deflection off his defenders. With the win, Timu ya Ziko managed to move to within two points of league leaders Red Arrows who are on 39 points and play Green Buffaloes on Saturday at 4 PM, a shot in the arm for Zesco’s title defense hopes.Up next for Zesco is Kafue Celtic in two weeks.
