CAF deals Kenya hammer blow with confirmation of Uganda’s qualification for AWCON

Confederation of African Football (CAF) appears to have ended Kenya’s hope of playing at this year’s African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Morocco after releasing a statement announcing Uganda’s qualification.Kenya was set to play Uganda Crested in two-legged qualification matches in February with the winner progressing to the tournament that will be staged in Morocco in August. However on Friday, Uganda’s federation, FUFA announced that they had received communication from CAF confirming Kenya’s withdrawal from the qualifiers meaning Uganda progress directly to the biannual tournament.Social media was awash with accusations and counter-accusations and FKF Caretaker Committee went ahead to release a press statement announcing that Kenya had not withdrawn from the competition and would in fact continue with its preparation for the competition.Looks like it’s done… Kenya withdraw from qualifiers, Uganda to play Women’s AFCON Morocco 2022 finals https://t.co/IGU5m1iKC6— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) January 29, 2022 This have taken a new twist after CAF released a statement announcing Uganda’s qualification for the tournament.CAF StatementIn acorrespondence to CAF, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced their withdrawal from the qualifiers of TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2022. The double-header between Kenya and Uganda initially scheduled in February 2022 as part of the last qualifying round is therefore canceled.Uganda become the first team to join hosts Morocco for the final phase of the tournament which will be played from 2 to 23 July 2022. The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will bring together 12 of the continent’s best teams for the title of African champions.
