Not everybody enjoys January transfer window – just remember this flops

Buying any player is a risk. Even in the June transfer window, when agents and directors have three months to find a proper player, deals are concluded which end up being total miss. And January is even worse. Teams which are buying in January are usually the ones which didn’t plan well, or their June transfers ended up being bad, teams who are fighting relegation and teams who are in injury crisis and need backups. And that raises the number of flops significately. So let us remind what transfer deals went on in January and turned out to be a disaster.Angry Man Utd players demand explanation over Super LeagueFernando TorresNo, we are not talking about Fernando Torres which came from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool, we are talking about Fernando Torres which signed for Chelsea in 2011 and scored only 45 goals in 172 games for the Blues. In Liverpool, the Spaniard played 142 games and scored 81 goals. But, Torres can be happy anyway. His wage at the time was skyhigh, while he also won FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League with the Blues.Andy CarrollThe second flop on this list is connected to the just mentioned Torres. After his switch from Liverpool to Chelsea, the Reds were suddenly out of strikers and they turned to this big talented boy, from a club which had no fear to ship out their star at the end of January, without any replacement found. Off course, it was Newcastle under the ownership of Mike Ashley, and Andy Carrol became the most expensive British footballer at the time. His legacy in Liverpool? Just 11 goals in 58 games in all competitions.3.50 Burkina Faso 3.00 Tunisia 2.45Eric Djemba-DjembaBefore coming to Aston Villa in January 2005 (he was signed on deadline day), the Cameroonian was already branded a flop by Manchester United fans and journalists. After year and a half at the Old Trafford, he only managed 39 appearances in all competition (scoring two goals), but the Villans probably thought he only needed a change of scenery to succeed. They were wrong. After two years in Birmingham, Djemba-Djemba played only 11 times for Villa. After that, he changed 12 clubs before retiring.Benni McCarthyWhen West Hem tried to avoid relegation in 2010, they bought Benni McCarthy from Blackburn, hoping he will help them score more goals. What a mistake. The South African managed a total of 14 games, 11 of them as a sub, and scored zero goals. He was even fined for failing to adhere to a weight-loss regime. Hammers vice-chairman Karren Brady publically hummiliated him.„Benni McCarthy was a big fat mistake. Rather than the super scorer we hoped for, we acquired a super size, a player devoted to filling his belly more than filling the net. As time went by he grew bigger and bigger and although in time he made a great effort to slim down, he’d passed the waistline of no return“ said Brady in her column to the Sun.Everybody buys but only PSG sells…sort ofJuan CuadradoCurrent Juventus player came to Turin after his transfer to Chelsea turned out to be a total disaster. Cuadrado came to London in January 2015 from Fiorentina, and was one of the better players in recently ended 2014 World Cup. But, Jose Mourinho never gave him a proper chance, esentially turning him into a frop. He lasted only six months in London, during which he managed only 15 appearances for the Blues. He was shipped to Juventus on a two year loan, after which he signed for the Italian giants permanently.
