Kenya Women Premier League (WPL) champions Thika Queens play a revamped Kangemi Ladies in match day seven as the former look to get back to winning ways. Thika lost 1-0, on the weekend, to rivals Ulinzi Starlets, their first league defeat in the hands of the Super Cup and Women’s Cup champions. Their redemption match against the winless Kangemi has, however, been made tougher by the return of Kangemi’s squad that helped the side gain promotion. Ahead of the Kangemi match, Thika’s assistant captain Nuru Hadima said that her side will need to be more tactical. “Ulinzi’s loss was painful but that is part of the game. As we head to subsequent games, our finishing and performance in midfield have to improve. We are champions and that puts a target on our backs, we have to be at our best against any team,” she offered. Meawhile, second-placed Gaspo Women take on Wadadia FC as they look to bounce back from their goalless stalemate against three-time champions Vihiga Queens and bag maximum points. After six matches, the Tila Wangui-coached side are trailing the leaders, Vihiga by two points and a win could take them top if Vihiga falter in their campaign for maximum points against Zetech Sparks.
