Whenever a story is published about Ousmane Dembele, somebody in Dortmund probably has a smile on his face. Borussia is basically the only club to really profit from the Frenchman, as they bought him from Rennes in 2016 for 4.5 billion Ksh and sold him the next year to Barcelona for 18 billion, and watched him struggle in Spain since. A number of injuries, questionable attitude, unwillingness to sign a new contract with Barcelona but rather walk away for free, these were all constant topics for the Spanish press during the last 4 years. So far, Barcelona has invested a sum of at least 23 billion Ksh in Dembele. Each of his goals costs 728 million Ksh, each minute he played was 3 million Ksh, and each game costed Barcelona 178 million Ksh. And many people are giving his example when they want to explain why the club is in such a bad financial shape, and rightfully so.No Benzema – no party! Los Blancos are out of Copa Del ReyBut what about Barca’s biggest rival – Real Madrid? They are in great financial shape, they just finished a new stadium from which they will get a ton of money, they have the power to sign soon to be free agent Kylian Mbappe to a huge deal, and yet, they too have their own Debele’s. In fact, there are couple of them, not just one. Players like Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Mariano, Fede Valverde and Dani Ceballos have hardly made any impact his season (or seasons before). In fact, coach Carlo Ancelotti is recutlant to play them even when he has problems with injuries and suspension. Real Madrid has gone to the semi-finals of the Champions League nine times, but only four time in the Spanish Cup, and they failed again on Thursday, when they lost against Athletic 1-0. Ancelotti again omitted these players and even relied on the Brazilians who came back from the international duty tired, rather than put Hazard of Luka Jovic into the match. „Players punished? I have nothing to say. There are no punished. Ceballos, Vallejo did not play either… They are at the same level than the others who have not played. You have to be fair” said Ancelotti a the press conference when asked if maybe Bale, Hazard and Jovic were punished by the coach.La Liga – January transfer window recap: Chaotic Barca and intimidating Real MadridThey are not punished, but Ancelotti doesn’t trust them. For example, Hazard has participated in 18 games this season. The average is 46 minutes each time he plays, but there have been 15 games in which he has not played a single minute. Hazard’s yearly wage is 3 billion Ksh. Gareth Bale was signed from Spurs for 13 billion Ksh in 2013. Since 2016, when Zinedine Zidane became coach, he played in only 110 matches in all competition and was loaned to Spurs. Since Ancelotti came back, he only played three games. His yearly wage is 4.2 billion Ksh. 📸| Gareth Bale was seen laughing at the 75th minute after Hazard was sent back to the bench after he had warmed up. @elchiringuitotv #rmalive pic.twitter.com/UkKM7ZewnI— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) February 4, 2022 Luka Jovic was bought from Frankfurt in 2019 for 8 billion Ksh and has a yearly wage of 1 billion Ksh. So far, he has played in only 47 games, one game less than his boyhood club Red Star. Mariano was Real’s child and sold to Lyon, where he earned another shot at Real, who bought him back in 2018. Since than, he registered only 56 appearances in all competition and his wage is 840 million Ksh per year. Valverde is a bit better, as he registered 127 games in the same amount of time as Mariano, for the wage of 545 million. The last one is Dani Ceballos, who came to Real in 2017 and managed only 59 games since (he spent one year on loan in Arsenal), for a yearly wage of 1 billion Ksh.So, all in all, six Real’s Demebele’s are costing the club around 11 billion Ksh per year, every year.
