Police, Sofapaka fire blanks in Wundanyi

The Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash pitting the 2009 champion Sofapaka and debutants Kenya Police has failed to live up to the pre-match hype around it after the two teams laboured for a goalless draw at the Wundanyi Stadium.Police had engaged their counterparts in an online war for the better part of last week and even promised to bag their sixth win of the season with ease owing to the calibre of fresh blood injected in their side in the mid-season transfer window. However, Sofapaka who alongside Gor Mahia have not had the opportunity to beef up their squads thanks to the bans imposed by FIFA held the visitors to register their sixth draw of the season.A well balanced duel so far, we go imto the break levelHT Sofapaka 0-0 Police@betikaKe@OyandoRonny#BatotoBaMungu pic.twitter.com/r6QqGYmbK1— Sofapaka FC (@FC_Sofapaka) February 6, 2022 Prior to kick off, coach John Bobby Ogolla handed the trio of Harun Shakava,Francis Kahata and Elvis Rupia their debuts with Shakava filling in the place of the injured Musa Mohammed. The three players who boast of international experience arrived at the Police camp during the ten-day break given to top flight clubs and after days of training with the promoted side, they seemingly managed to convince Ogolla that they were good enough to make it to the starting team.Shakava who made an infamous switch from record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia partnered with Soita Silicho at the heart of the defence with another Kenyan international Duncan Otieno providing cover to the backline that had David Owino and Eric Juma who also joined the club in the mid-season transfer window.SOFAPAKA vs KENYA POLICE pic.twitter.com/EAe65mm3dv— KENYA POLICE FC (@kenyapolicefc) February 6, 2022 Going by the heavy investment the Police bosses had which was boosted by the sponsorship deal with one of their shirt partner, the team was supposed to make light work of the hosts but they proved equal to the task and managed to keep the scores intact until the breather. Both teams rung changes in the second half in a bid to improve their chances of getting maximum points but their goal shy forwards failed to tap in from the chances created. Police have now recorded seven draws this season.AFC Leopards 1-1 Bidco United In another match played at the Nyayo National Stadium, Ingwe and Bidco played to a one-all draw.
