Barcelona got a monster sponsorship deal with Spotify. But, it came with a price. After agreeing a three year deal with one of the largest music streaming service providers with over 406 million monthly active users, Barcelona CEO Ferran Reverter resigned after only seven months, with the most common reason in the whole world – family reasons. This resignation will be effective as soon as the Club incorporates a new general director, but according to reliable sources in the Spanish media, the real reason is the Spotify sponsorship. 🚨 Barcelona will sign a new partnership with Spotify over 3 seasons, worth €93m-a-year. The new sponsor will see the company replace Rakuten on the front of the team’s shirts as well as reportedly becoming the first brand to sponsor the club’s Camp Nou stadium. The deal is about to be signed and will have to pass the vote at the club’s General Assembly. Daniel EK, the founder of Spotify has been under the spotlight in England for some time, after he publically announced his wish to buy his boyhood club Arsenal, and even submitted one bid, which was rejected immediately, with a message that the club is not for sale. Reverter did not agree with many of the decisions of various kinds that the president in charge of the club was taking. Mundo Deportivo writes that Reverter was unhappy with the way the whole shirt sponsorship issue was handled. He directly participated in the management of the agreement with Spotify, but did not agree with the idea that all the rights (the first men’s and women’s soccer team shirt, training clothes and ‘title rights’) should be given to one sponsor, in this particular case to Spotify. That is why Reverter was working on other brands that the board of directors did not see well, one of them a company linked to blockchain and NFT’s, for the sleeve of the shirt, an agreement that has been ruled out.How much is Xavi’s Barcelona better than Koeman’s and Adama’s second time aroundAccording to Ràdio Barcelona, the agreement with the Israeli company Ownix, sponsored by President Laporta , was not liked either from the outset without anticipating at all that it would have to be rescinded when its owner, Moshe Hogeg, along with seven other suspects, was arrested, the most of them partners or employees of Beitar Jerusalem, charged with suspicions of millionaire fraud with cryptocurrencies and other sexual crimes.”These months have been exciting and I thank the President for his confidence and, especially, his enthusiasm and leadership capacity so that FC Barcelona now has a top-level management team capable of repositioning Barça as a world leader. Now I want to focus in the purpose for which I returned to Barcelona, which is to dedicate more time to personal and family projects” Ferran Reverter declared on the club’s website.
