It has come to this: ‘Everybody would be happy if we finish fourth’

O boy, what a change in club culture! If somebody told to Sir Alex Ferguson that 10 years after his retirement Manchester interim boss would publically declare that everyone will be happy if United finishes fourth, he would probably laugh and just take one more glass of wine. But no, it’s not a joke. It’s Manchester’s old/new reality. One of the famous clubs in England will spent another season without trophies, unless they somehow manage to win the Champions League, which is a tough one, even for the most optimistic fans.Ralf Rangnick: “Right now we are fourth in the league and everybody on the inside of the club including myself would be happy if we finish fourth at the end of the season.”Unfortunately, yes.#MUFC #BURMUN #mulive 🔴— Noah Mcilroy (@NsmUnited) February 8, 2022 After a tough loss in the FA Cup, the Red Devils are back to the Premier League against relegation strugglers Burnley, and the title is already gone. So, the players are only hoping they can be fourth at the end, but the journalists also asked interim boss Ralf Rangnick about another season without the title.“You just need to have a look at the table. But it doesn’t help us discussing that now in the middle of the season with me only arrived 10 weeks ago. This is a topic for the end of the season or maybe a couple of weeks before the end. If Manchester United has not won a title in the last 10 years there must be some good reasons for that. Right now we are fourth in the league and everybody on the inside of the club including myself would be happy if we finish fourth at the end of the season” said the German.⚡️ @MarcusRashford ⚡️Our no.10 rounded off a fine move and added a second in our 2-0 win at Burnley in 2019/20 👏#MUFC | #BURMUN pic.twitter.com/EWmyBjSkGq— Manchester United (@ManUtd) February 7, 2022 This season, United had it’s fair share of controversies off the field, and one of them was a relationship between the manager and some of the players. Both Antonio Martial and Jesse Lingard used the social media to publically oppose their coach’s statements and for the German tactician, it would be better for the players to keep issues in-house.“It’s always better. I never ever read or communicate by those social media accounts. I don’t exist there and wouldn’t have time to do that, so therefore it’s always better and I always communicate with the players directly. I did that with Anthony and Jesse, but maybe I’m from a different kind of generation. I know in both cases what I said to the players and what happened so, for me, there’s no reason to discuss this anymore” said Rangnick.A dodgy handball and 3000 Ksh for the Boro keeper – how Man United crashed out of the FA CupBoth Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani will be available for this match, along with finally healthy Paul Pogba, but Fred and Alex Telles won’t feature due to injuries. For Burnley, Charlie Taylor is not fit for this match, along with Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Matej Vydra, while fellow striker Ashley Barnes is a major doubt, but Josh Brownhill is back. Burnley are hoping to score a home Premier League goal against Manchester United for the first time since 2009.
