Former K’Ogalo man Jerim Onyango completes switch to Sharks

Legendary Gor Mahia custodian Jerim Onyango has officially been unveiled as the new goalkeeping coach at Kariobangi Sharks just days after he was shown the exit door at K’Ogalo.In an announcement made by the club on Tuesday afternoon, the former Gor Mahia skipper, who hang up his boots before kick-starting his coaching career, was unveiled as the new goalkeeper coach taking over from Dick Francis.“Renowned goalkeeper cum goalkeeper coach Jerim Onyango is our new goalkeeping coach taking over from Dick Francis,” the club posted on their website.✍🏿| We are pleased to announce the arrival of legendary Jerim Onyango.🦈| Jerry will be our new goalkeeping coach.📲 https://t.co/hVSp4rSR5F#WeAreSharks #BetwaySharks pic.twitter.com/xP88BXhMXN— Kariobangi Sharks FC (@k_sharksfc) February 9, 2022 Just two weeks ago, Jerry, as he is popularly known, was sacked alongside Englishman Mark Harrison and his assistant Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo for what the club termed as poor results.During his unveiling, the coach who holds a Trainers Level 1 license in goalkeeping and a CAF C coaching license expressed his delight at joining the club as he gave his early assessment of goalkeepers Brandon Obiero, Brian Olang’o and John Otieno.“I appreciate the opportunity to join Sharks, I feel at home and it is a working experience moving away from another club. I am happy and I am positive with the task at hand,” he said.Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia sack entire coaching staff“I am impressed with their character and attitude. They are willing to learn and give whatever they have and from the look of things they are a gifted trio and I am sure that whatever I will pass on to them will be worth it and I believe they are up for the chore,” the keeper added.Jerry brings on board experience from being the immediate former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia goalkeeping coach.He begun his goalkeeping coach journey back in 2016 after retiring from the game where he joined Gor Mahia’s youth team in the same capacity.In 2018, he was appointed as the Kenya U-16 goalkeeping coach. In 2019, he served as the U 15 goalkeeping coach at the Centre of Excellence formedHis rise through the junior categories was gradual as he was tasked with the National U-20 team in 2020 and a year later, he was tasked with the Kenya U-23 team.It was afterwards that he was elevated to the senior men’s National team and was also The Gor Mahia goalkeeping coach from March up to January 2022.Additional reporting by Kariobangi Sharks.
