Antonio: ’Is what Zouma did worse than racism?’

There are people out there who think that some people like animals more than other people. And they have strong arguments about their claims while Kurt Zouma case is one of them. West Ham defender was recorded while kicking one of his two cats in his home in London and the actions which followed were quick and decisive. Zouma was punished with two week’s wages by the club (which is the biggest punishment possible, apart from sacking), his sponsor Adidas terminated the deal they had with the player, his cats were taken away from him by The RSPCA animal welfare charity, and the club lost two of it’s sponsors: Insurance and investment company Vitality and Experience Kissimmee, the tourism authority for Osceola County in Florida.Zouma fined, cats taken away, club loses sponsorOn top of that, his brother, who recorded the video and shared it on social media was released by lower league Dagenham & Redbridge Football club. But, it didn’t stop there. There are calls for Zouma to be released from West Ham, and coach David Moyes was criticized for playing the French international on Wednesday against Watford. The journalists also wanted to know what the players think about their teammate’s actions, but they got the answer they didn’t expect from the club’s best player Michail Antonio.„I’ve got a question for you. Do you think, what he’s done is worse than racism? I’m not condoning a thing that he’s done – I don’t agree with a thing that he’s done at all. But there’s people that have been convicted in court for racism and that has played football afterwards. They got punished, they got a eight-game ban or something like that. But people are now calling for Zouma to be sacked, people to be sacked and lose their livelihood. I’ve just got to ask this question to everyone out there is, is what he’s done worse than what the people have done who have been convicted for racism?“ Antonio asked journalists.Michail Antonio has given a powerful response when asked about the situation at West Ham with Kurt Zouma. pic.twitter.com/epXxAkkfLU— Football Daily (@footballdaily) February 10, 2022 As well as his public apology, Zouma has apologized to his team-mates at their training ground. It is understood the defender will be sent on an animal awareness course by his club as part of his punishment.
