FKF Caretaker Committee has now written to FIFA urging the world governing body to rescind Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s decision to hand Uganda a walkover and re-schedule the two-legged qualification fixture between Kenya and Uganda.Mid last month, CAF announced that it had handed Uganda automatic qualification o AWCON which will be played in Morocco in August. This is after the ousted federation confirmed to CAF that it was not in a position to successfully host the matches. The first leg was set to be played on 17th February in Kampala and the return leg five days later in Nairobi, the aggregate winner of the two games would then head to Morocco.CAF announced that it had handed the qualification berth to Uganda much to the disappointment of the whole country and the Caretaker Committee, which is recognized by neither CAF nor FIFA insisted that the match would go own even kept Starlets’ players in camp.It has now emerged that the committee directly wrote to FIFA urging them to rescind CAF’s decision and let the two nations face off as earlier scheduled.Interview for Head Coach National team (Harambee Starlets) underway…may we get the best coach for our team. @FKFcaretaker@fkfcc_women pic.twitter.com/6VqnFRHR2Q— Lindah Oguttu (@lindahoguttu) January 18, 2022 “Football is no longer just a game for men, it’s also a game for women. Men and women turn up for our games in their thousands to cheer us on. One day we would like to represent Kenya at the FIFA Women’s World. But … that path is blocked for us. .The federation says that, because of the dispute, they can’t arrange our last qualifying match for the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), “ the committee said in the letter, seen by Insideworldfootball. The committee further argues that the AWCON would have been Starlets’ route to their first-ever appearance at the World Cup. The 2023 Women World Cup will be played in New Zealand.“The AWCON is our only route to the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. We have been training every day for two weeks in Nairobi to get ready for this match against Uganda but we do not know if it will ever take place. Even if we lose to Uganda, at least we would have tried our best to make our people proud, “Continued the letter.FIFA is yet to respond to the letter.
