Sofapaka FC ended their five match winless run with a comfortable 2-1 triumph over Wazito FC at the Utalii Grounds on Saturday afternoon.Heading into the game, Wazito were seeking to return to winning ways after going down to Ulinzi Stars last time out. The first chance went Sofapaka’s way through Lawrence Juma in the 3rd minute but the midfielder’s low left foot shot was saved by Wazito keeper Bashir Ssekagya. Next was Levin Odhiambo for Wazito from a set piece, his deflected effort was however saved by Sofapaka keeper, Kevin Omondi in the 8th minute. Stephen Okola had another chance for Sofapaka in the 11th minute but Bashir was equal to the task saving his glancing header.The hosts got two chances in quick succesion in the 14th and 15th minutes. The first was an Eric Otieno header from a Levin cross which went narrowly wide, Amos Asembeka then followed with a belter from midfield which Omondi on Sofapaka goal saved.Batoto ba Mungu made one of their chances count in the 18th minute. Former Wazito forward, Joe Waithira danced into the area before beating Ssekagya with a low shot that rolled into the bottom left corner.The end to end action continued as both teams went all out in search of more goals. Wazito’s main attacking outlet was Otieno down the left and James Kinyanjui on the right. Juma and Waithira looked dangerous for Sofapaka.Sofapaka should have made it 2-0 just before the break, Nixon Omondi went past Wazito keeper Bashir but he somehow failed to find the back of the net as Johnstone Omurwa recovered to clear the ball from the line. The first half ended in Sofapaka’s favor.Second halfSofapaka made three changes before the restart, Alex Imbusia, Jacob Onyango and Geoffrey Ojunga were introduced for Tsuma Said, Joe Waithira and Sunday Ikekhai.The first second half chance went Juma’s way in the 55th minute when he rattled the upright from distance, a minute he capitalized on an error to double Sofapaka’s advantage with a great lob.Wazito responded by making two changes moments later. New signing Aziz Okaka replaced James Kinyanjui while Amos Ekhalie came on for Fidel Origa.Okaka’s introduction would yield fruits 14 minutes from time as he halved the deficit after connecting to a Levin with a great header. Wazito started to attack more after reducing Batoto Ba Mungu Okaka and another new signing Curtis Wekesa looked very lively on their debuts.Okaka’s debut would however end prematurely as he saw red five minutes from time after an incident with a Sofapaka player. Sofapaka defended their advantage to win.
