Olunga admits to struggling to settle in Qatar

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has admitted to struggling to adapt at Al Duhail following his move to the Qatar-based club from Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol in January 2021.The Kenyan international made the switch just days after being crowned the Most Valuable Player in the Japanese league, having emerged the leading scorer with 28 league goals.Speaking to Al Duhail slightly over a year since linking up with the team, Olunga said that his initial days at Duhail were not easy owing to the fact that he joined when the league was midway, having had completed the season in Japan.🔝 @OgadaOlunga is way ahead on top with 4️⃣ weeks remaining in the tournamentFind out the list of all #QNBStarsLeague scorers so far 👇🏻🔗 https://t.co/o6puVWjpWy pic.twitter.com/ITHTmM1U4z— Qatar Stars League (@QSL_EN) February 11, 2022 The former Gor Mahia forward further rued the weather difference in the two countries as one of the other factors that made it tough for him to settle in.”When I came it was a little bit difficult because I came when the league was in the middle and I was arriving from Japan where the league was over and adapting was not easy. The weather in Qatar is different from the weather in Japan and the adapting phase took a while. Now I have adopted well and I know the players and the management inside out. Everyone working around me has helped me settle in,” Olunga said.##EDITORS_CHOICE##In the nine league appearances that Olunga made in his first season, he managed to score six times and bettered that tally in the AFC Champions League where he emerged the top scorer with nine goals.Kenyan international and Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga is the 2021 Asian Champions League top goal scorer. The Al Duhail foward consequently wins the golden boot after bagging 9 goals in the tournament.
