The FKF Caretaker Committee has turned its focus to upcoming World Cup Women U-17 qualifiers and the Cecafa tournaments after a frustratingly futile attempt to get the national senior women team to play the AWCON qualifier against Uganda. .The U-17 qualifiers are scheduled for March while Cecafa tournaments’ dates will be known after the Cecafa General Assembly scheduled for February 25, 2022.This comes after the committee closed Harambee Starlets’ training camp on Wednesday morning. The decision was arrived at after CAF handed Uganda a ticket to the AWCON. Starlets were set to play Uganda in the final qualification round of AWCON but CAF announced that Kenya had withdrawn from the qualifiers. Despite protests from the Sports CS appointed committee, CAF did not rescind its decision and the helpless caretaker committee decided to release the girls who had been in camp for 21 days.Addressing the press on Wednesday morning, Caretake Committee chairman Aaron Ringera expressed his disappointment at the turn of events saying Kenya would have qualified for AWCON had they been given a chance to play Uganda. He added that they are now focused on featuring in the World Cup qualifiers and Cecafa tournaments.FKF Caretaker Committee Chairman Aaron Ringera has officially closed the Harambee Starlets training camp.Kenya will not be playing in the AWCON qualifiers meaning they miss out on AWCON in Morocco and the World Cup that will be staged in New Zealand.#HarambeeStarlets pic.twitter.com/TZPIhmSo9a— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) February 16, 2022 “If these ladies got the chance, they were going to beat Uganda. We are going to have Under 17 and Cecafa coming soon and we don’t want to see this happening again,” he stated. He chided former FKF CEO Barry Otieno whom he accused of sabotaging Harambee Starlets while revealing that he is set to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for grilling.”To the best of my knowledge, Otieno will be appearing before DCI for interference and sabotage. He has denied the girls an opportunity and I hope Otieno and his team will not do what they have done, in the coming competitions,” he added. The Caretaker Committee was installed in November by Sports CS Amina Mohamed when she disbanded FKF.
