Harambee Stars’ pacy winger Ovella Ochieng’ enjoyed a Gaborone Derby victory in his first time of asking when his Township Rollers side managed to secure a tight 1-0 victory over fierce rivals Gaborone United in a Botswana Premier League clash staged at the Royal Aria Stadium.Although the Kenyan international was not named in the starting eleven, the former Kariobangi Sharks player was introduced in the 56th minute where he helped his side consolidate the precious three points that cut down Gaborone’s lead’s at the top as well as giving the MaPopa fans the sweet bragging rights.Prior to the match, both sides had not lost any game since the start of the year and the log leading Gaborone sat four points ahead of Rollers in second.While it was the tale toppers who made a bright start to the match, Rollers made the team pay for not taking their chances as they broke the deadlock with ten minutes before the half time break. After an exchange with Bame Morwalela, Segolame Boy played the ball from the wide left into the box where Aaron Dion scored from the near post to give his side the advantage at the break.In the second half, the log leaders were determined to salvage at least a point from the game as they threw bodies forward in search of an equalizer. Rollers on the other hand hit them with quick play on the transition.In the 62nd minute, Phenyo Serameng thought he had successfully extended his team’s advantage when he had the ball in the back of the net but referee Joshua Bondo ruled it out as Boy was adjudged to have used a hand in the build up to the goal.Oburu off to a flying start in ZambiaIn the end, the single goal from Dion proved enough as Rollers held on for the slim 1-0 victory to cut the gap at the top of the log to one point, though the Reds have a game in hand.Ovella will have another chance to feature in another Gaborone Derby next week as Rollers will be playing Notwane – another old Gaborone rival – next Sunday 27 February 2022.
