Reports in Italy say that Roma will be going all out in their pursuit to sign Barcelona’s American attacking full-back Sergino Dest in the next transfer window.Jose Mourinho has revamped Roma’s squad since becoming the Italian’s capital boss. But recent results suggest that more work will have to be done if the Giallorossi are to challenge for the title – or at least break into the top four. That’s why the club from the Italian capital is already planning for the next transfer window.Mon 23.00: (1.95) Bologna (3.45) Spezia (4.00)Roma’s Director of Football Tiago Pinto has drawn up a list of potential recruits to plug a few holes in the team. Although Mourinho has spoken about needing another central midfielder several times, Roma really need wingbacks on either side of the pitch. On the left side, the long-term injury to Leonardo Spinazzola prompted the club to sign Uruguayan international Matias Vina as a replacement, but it hasn’t exactly worked. Replacing the Azzurri first-choice left-back would be a difficult task even for better players than Vina. But at least Roma fans can look forward to Spinazzola’s return from injury in another month or so. The problems are by the opposite sideline, where Rick Karsdorp is proving to be a liability. The Dutchman has often been sub-par in defensive duties, prompting Mourinho to look for replacements. Even though Alessandro Florenzi is officially a Roma player, Milan’s loanee won’t be recalled to Stadio Olimpico.Xavi: “Sergiño Dest is at a sensational level. When I arrived he wasn’t so good and now he’s great both with and without the ball.” pic.twitter.com/nS3O2EoJmC— Barça Universal (@BarcaUniversal) February 20, 2022 Sergino Dest could be a good fit. At just 22 years of age, he has the best part of his career ahead of him and would cost around $20 million. He joined Barcelona at the request of the Blaugrana’s former coach Ronald Koeman but has initially fallen down the pecking order since Xavi Hernandez had become the head coach of the Camp Nou team. The American international wasn’t happy sitting on the bench, but his fortunes have improved dramatically in the past month. What could prove as an unexpected obstacle for Mourinho is that the American has improved recently and even received public praise from Xavi.Perhaps Mourinho waited too long to get the former Ajax player.
