Is the Saudi Arabia-backed golf league ‘dead in the water?’ Plus a Honda Classic preview

It was an entertaining day to be part of golf Twitter on Sunday afternoon. Not only was the Genesis Invitational fantastic, as Riviera Country Club delivered once again, but the world of golf saw a huge shift when Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau both committed to the PGA Tour leaving Phil Mickelson standing alone a la Will Smith at the end of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Mickelson has been on a rampage against the PGA Tour, speaking of their ‘greed’ as well as backing up Charley Hoffman when he said the Tour fails to protect their players. Well, it seems the lefty is headed to Saudi Arabia all by his lonesome, and to be honest, it’s hard to feel bad.

Just ask Rory McIlroy, who had this to say about Mickelson’s comments.

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast, Andy and I dive into the Saudi Arabia situation a bit, wondering with all the recent player commitments to the PGA Tour, if the league’s fate is already sealed.

We also discuss the Genesis Invitational and Joaquin Niemann entering the top 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in his career. It was an impressive wire-to-wire win, and it was nice to have him on the card last week for Top South American.

Then, we get into our Honda Classic preview. We discuss the course, key statistics, betting odds, and some of our favorite picks for the week. Andy has zero confidence right now, which may have something to do with picking Dustin Johnson at the Genesis and him missing the weekend.
