National Super League SS Assad saw off Mombasa Elite 2-0 at Shamu Ground, Ukunda while MCF were held by Silibwet Leons to a one-all draw as the NSL made a return after a two-week break with two matches on Friday. For SS Assad, this was their third win in the division as they extended their unbeaten streak to six matches, four of those being draws. After playing to a barren first half, SS Assad scored twice in the second half, first through Abdalla Dalo and then Nyamawi Beja doubled the lead to condemn Mombasa Elite to their fourth consecutive loss, the only team to lose in all their last four matches in the league.Apart from extending their unbeaten run, the win saw SS Assad pull out of the relegation zone to 16th on 14 points, same as Kisumu All Stars and Coastal Heroes who have a superior goal difference.Though MCF picked a point on the road, it will be much painful for them because they lost a chance to move to fourth on the log as a win would have taken them to 21 points, just two behind third-placed Murang’a Seal and six behind leaders Fortune Sacco.Silibwet Leons drew first blood against MCF before Rama Mwabura struck home the equalizer with four minutes left to play in the first half.MCF had the chance to lead for the first time in the game from the spot after the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Geofrey Alwala in the box but Kevince Ochieng could not find the back of the net and only struck the post.NSL action continues on Saturday with eight matches on the cards.
