Unfortunate Red Devils held back by sturdy Watford

Wednesday evening showed a lot of Manchester United weaknesses – Atletico Madrid were a better side in that Champions League clash. Even so, the Red Devils managed to come out unbeaten from that meeting and the public expected United to let all their frustrations out on relegation battling Watford this Saturday afternoon. We saw nothing close to it – no goals, a lot of desperate attempts and another disappointing result for the Premier League giants.Manchester United and Watford join together to protest against the Russia invasion of Ukraine.❤️🇺🇦pic.twitter.com/ktx8fObwAT— SPORTbible (@sportbible) February 26, 2022 Roy Hodgson again brought misery on the Red Devils as he extended his personal unbeaten run at Old Trafford to four games. Also, this is Watford’s first point at the Theater of Dreams since 1985.It did not seem it would end satisfactorily for the guests if we look at the opening minutes of the match. United’s early pressure ought to have produced a goal, but the woodwork denied Cristiano Ronaldo with Ben Foster beaten. It was all followed by a great play by Ronaldo, Anthony Elanga and Bruno Fernandes but Foster did his job, sensationally denying Fernandes’ shot.Bruno Miss 🙂 Via 🎥: @Mohammad_zrek1 @ManUtd @WatfordFC #MUNWAT #ManchesterUnited #مانشستر_يونايتد_واتفورد#الدوري_الانجليزي pic.twitter.com/FuhVRXkyam— Goals HD (@GoalsHD17) February 26, 2022 Bruno created two more glorious chances but the biggest sigh of disappointment came after Ronaldo saw his goal disallowed – the linesman cut-short his celebrations waving offside. At the heart of everything good around United’s attacking play was their bright spark Elanga. The Swede burst through from deep to latch onto Paul Pogba’s flick, but diverted his effort just the wrong side of the post.Ronaldo had a few situations which he would – if it was let’s say 2015 – easily convert. However, he lacked that spring in his step and those killer reactions which turned half-chances into goals.Offensively, Watford offered pretty much nothing – it seemed inevitable the opener would fall United’s way. Ronaldo’s frustration grew even more after Foster flew across the goal to smother his sneaky shot from the goal line. Ralf Rangnick removed both defensive midfielders in search of the opener and threw on all his attacking options early. Even so – the Hornets just did not allow for the scoreboard to change.Manchester United settle for a draw at home against 19th place Watford.
