It’s the end of February, and Barcelona is yet to lose in La Liga. The Catalonians have finally found a rhythm with Xavi, especially after he got his transfer wishes. This Barca with Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Adama Traore looks really dangerous, as Athletic Bilbao found out tonight. Barca won this match with ease, and surpassed Atletico Madrid at the table. Xavi’s men are now fourth, with just point less than Betis, who lost the city derby with Seville. On top of that, the Catalonians have a game in hand, and are likely to come to the third place if they continue to play like this: Barcelona – Athletic 4-0. Just over a month ago, tonight’s visitors defeated Barca in Copa del Rey with a goal in overtime, and along with a defeat from Real in Spanish Super Cup, these were the only times when Xavi’s men were defeated in 2022. Finally after a long time, Barca looks like a team which president Laporta and the fans want to see. Apart from a draw with Napoli in the first leg of the Europa League, the Catalonians scored two or more goals in 5 matches, out of which in four they scored 4 goals: against Atletico, Valencia, Napoli (second leg) and tonight against Athletic. Xavi’s men were full of confidence and attacked the visitors goal but it was not until 18th minute when some really good chance arrived. Pedri gave a perfect pass to Ferran who left the ball to Gavi, and even thou he was alone, he sent the ball to the clouds. Ferran was again involved in the 32nd minute, but this time as the main actor. The Spaniard picked up a pass from Aubameyang, but Unai Simon saved his shot. But five minute later it was 1-0 to Barca. It was another great corner kick from Dany Alves, who came in for suspended Jordi Alba and Pique’s powerful header finished off the crossbar but Aubameyang reacted very quickly and scored his third goal in La Liga. Aubameyang is proving tremendously effective since he arrived at Barcelona. Of the seven shots on goal that he has made, four have been goals. The things were pretty much the same in the second half, but this time, chances were much harder to come by. Athletic even had a couple of minutes when they tried to do something, but Ousmane Dembele put the end to that with a powerful shot in the 73rd minute. Frenky De Jong gave him a quick ball from the middle of the field and the Frenchman came into the penalty area from the left, and while many expected him to put a cross, he surprised everybody and shot straight at the goal from a tight angle. The shot was powerful and precise, and it was 2-0. From that moment, it was just a matter of time how much goals Barca will score. Two late goals came in from the substitutes De Jong and Depay for the final score and another win.
