Lilian Awuor handed a baptism of fire in France

Harambee Starlets custodian Lilian Awuor had a debut to remember and forget at the same time, as her side Soyaux ASJ were hammered 5-1 by FF Issy-Les-Moulineaux in a league match on Saturday. The former Vihiga Queens goalkeeper was handed the starting berth in between the sticks for the first time, making her first appearance since completing the move to the French side in January. #GPSOASJ#D1Arkema #BleuesetBlanches pic.twitter.com/mwyEXmO32o— ASJ Soyaux Charente (@ASJSoyaux) February 26, 2022 Mostly, the Kenyan international has been on the bench since making the switch and was thrown into the fray in the absence of Romane Munich who conceded eight in the last outing and has been the preferred custodian.Allie Thornton opened the scoring for Moulineaux after just seven minutes before Loius Batcheba hit a brace in the 17th and 40th minute, with Roselord Borgella scoring the fourth in the first minute of stoppage time in the first half to see Awuor and her side trail by four goals at the break.Daniel Oceane made it five just ten minutes after the break with Eden Avital scoring the consolation for Soyaux ASJ with nine minutes left on the clock, just 19 minutes after coming off the bench.Nouvelle recrue 🔥Lilian Awuor est Bleue et Blanche 🔵⚪🇰🇪 Internationale Kenyane2️⃣2️⃣ Ans🧤 Gardienne#BleuesetBlanches pic.twitter.com/dR0KQrTVZW— ASJ Soyaux Charente (@ASJSoyaux) January 27, 2022 The beating saw Soyaux ASJ drop to 11th on the log and right in the relegation mix with 10 points, only just above Saint-Etienne who are last on the log with only five points from 15 matches.Their defensive record on the league is the worst this season, having conceded 49 goals in 15 matches, the most by any team in the league, and it is definitely an area they will have to work on if they are to survive the chop.
