Former Harambee Stars striker Mike Okoth has backed Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed’s stance on the way forward for Kenyan football after FIFA indefinitely suspended the country from international football on Thursday due to Government interference. On Saturday, Amina in response to FIFA’s indefinite suspension of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) said that the government will not relent in its quest to clean football in the country. This is after FIFA directed that they would only lift the suspension once acting FKF Vice-president Doris Petra and CEO Barry Otieno are allowed back to the office.”The decision by the Government of Kenya to disband FKF fully adhered to the Laws of Kenya; it fully a legally prescribed process and had a defined roadmap,” read part of her response. On November 11th, Amina moved to disband FKF that was then led by Nick Mwendwa, she thereafter installed a caretaker committee to run football activities in the country for six months, hold elections and hand over to the new office.##EDITORS_CHOICE##Amina has found backing from Okoth, a retired Kenyan international who was part of the Kenya team at the 2004 AFCON in Tunisia. He urged the minister to focus on finding solutions bewildering the game.“The Minister should sit down and look for solutions. We’ve had problems with the management of football in Kenya for a long time and everyone knows that because Kenyans have been complaining about it on social media,” Okoth told the Daily Nation. We went further to take a swipe at FIFA saying the government cannot stand and watch as things take the wrong turn.“The government has a role to play in developing the sport including building stadiums, preparing national teams and employing coaches and they cannot sit and watch things go wrong. FIFA knows that.” He added.
