Uganda will host this year’s CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship after being handed the rights during CECAFA’s Annual General Assembly held on Friday last week and attended by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba.Alongside Uganda, Kenya had expressed interest in hosting the tournament that was set to take place last year but did not after Djibouti pulled out of playing hosts but the suspension made it easy for the regional body to settle on Uganda.Uganda has been awarded to stage the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship this year. The dates will be announced at a later date.#NBSUpdates #SanyukaUpdates pic.twitter.com/PlyhqJ3Vmc— Grace Lindsay Mbabazi (@gracelmbabazi) February 26, 2022 The Djibouti Football Federation officially communicated in October last year that they would not be able to host the tournament at the El Hadj Hassan Gouled Stadium as it had been planned earlier citing rehabilitation works that were ongoing at the stadium as the reason the country made the decision to withdraw from hosting the tourney.Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) president Moses Hassim Magogo Uganda was willing and ready to host the regional showpiece as it would help them and Burundi fine-tune for the Women’s AFCON 2022 in Morocco as the two teams from the CECAFA region have booked a spot.CECAFA will today draw the 2022 calendar during the Annual General Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania. pic.twitter.com/FwYOxQ5qxr— Cecafaonline (@Cecafaonline) February 25, 2022 Kenya was the only country among all the members of CECAFA that did not attend the AGM which came barely 24 hours after FIFA had dropped the hammer on Kenya’s suspension from international football. The other tournaments that are expected to be staged in the CECAFA Zone in 2022 include; AFCON U-17 qualifiers, AFCON U-20 qualifiers, CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers, Pan African School qualifiers, CECAFA Kagame Cup, and the CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup.There is a chance that Kenya will miss on these events if the suspension by FIFA is not lifted in the near future.
