Nairobi City Stars defender Lennox Ogutu has explained why he wildly celebrated his goal against his boyhood club Mathare United on Saturday at the Thika Sub-County Stadium.Ogutu, opened the scoring for Simba wa Nairobi shortly after the interval, a game they went on to win 3-0 courtesy of other goals from Ezekiel Odera and Nicholas Kipkirui. His goal was a header straight from a Timothy Ouma corner kick. Coincidentally, it was the first goal City Stars have scored from a corner since they got promoted back to the top tier in 2020. It also came against Ogutu’s former side Mathare United. The central defender is a Mathare man through and through. He played for their U20 team before cementing his place in the senior team. After the conclusion of 2020/21 season, the lanky defender decamped for Simba wa Nairobi.📽️ | MATCH HIGHLIGHTSOur short trip to Thika bore 3 points as we completed the DOUBLE against Mathare United!Watch & enjoy Simbas 🦁🦁Happy New Week!#CityStars #NCS #ActionOfTheDay pic.twitter.com/2rTm3McAI6— Official Nairobi City Stars Fc (@NrbCityStars) February 28, 2022 Ordinarily, most would have expected him not to celebrate a goal against his former employer or at the very least do it subtly but the player decided to go all out after breaching United’s rearguard in Thika.According to him, he had to celebrate as it had been long since he scored. Interestingly. Last season he scored three goals against his club.“It had been long since I scored a Premier League goal and I had been searching. This one was memorable that I had to celebrate,” he told the club’s official website. The player wants to get more after breaking the suck. “The goal is exciting and I hope to score more for City Stars in games to come,” he added.Next for City Stars is an away match against struggling Bidco United on Saturday. The match will be played at the Thika Sub-County Stadium starting from 3 PM.
