He had spent six years in Portugal after joining them from Mexican team Pachuca in 2013. The midfielder has earned 93 caps for the Mexican national team and scored ten goals. He represented El Tri at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup, and won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. The Olympic victory was not only Mexico’s first gold medal in soccer, it was the country’s only gold medal at the London Olympics and their second ever youth title. He played 71 games for Atletico, scoring one goal and contributing four assists during his time there.
