A 3-2 victory over Watford saw the Gunners climb into the Premier League top four – Arsenal strengthening their Champions League bid inflicted an eighth successive home league defeat on the Hornets. Watford flew out of the traps which meant that seven home defeats in a row didn’t dampen the spirits at Vicarage Road. Roy Hodgon’s men had the ball in the net inside a minute through Emmanuel Dennis – however, the Nigerian’s joy was cut short by the linesman’s flag.It did not take long before the favorites from the Emirates Stadium scored themselves but did not break any rules while doing so. Martin Odegaard finished off a swift Arsenal move to fire the Gunners ahead inside five minutes and meaning there would again be no home clean sheet for Watford. A great one-two played with Bukayo Saka paid off.Watford’s response came soon after and what response that was. Aaron Ramsdale did not take home a clean sheet thanks to a sublime finish from Cucho Hernández who thundered a bicycle kick past the Arsenal stopper. The intensity did not drop and both teams showed determination in attack – but Arsenal showed more. A topsy-turvy game had another twist in store as Saka robbed Tom Cleverley of possession, played yet another one-two, this time with Alexandre Lacazette, before rifling high into the roof of Ben Foster’s net to give Arsenal the lead before the break. It was a game full of sensational strikes and the trend was continued thanks to Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian got his name on the scoresheet as yet another free-flowing Arsenal move was crowned by a stunning finish. The ball ended up in the top-corner, leaving Watford with their heads hanging down and two goals behind. But the hosts did not give up completely. After Kiko Femenía’s teasing cross, Dennis spurned a glorious opportunity for Watford but couldn’t make a clean contact on the ball. Late consolation did come, courtesy of Moussa Sissoko, but that was as good as it got for Watford. The Hornets remain saddled with the Premier League’s worst home record this season while Arsenal have now recorded four league wins in a row and a provisional spot in the top-four. All ahead of the Manchester Derby which could affect their chances.Arsenal seek Champions League football for the first time since 2016/17 and although with games in hand on their European rivals, the Gunners hold all the cards.PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 28SaturdayAston Villa – Southampton 4-0 (2-0)/Watkins 9, Douglas Luiz 44, Coutinho 52, Ings 54/Burnley – Chelsea 0-4 (0-0)/James 47, Havertz 52, 55, Pulisic 69/Newcastle United – Brighton 2-1 (2-0)/Fraser 12, Schar 14 – Dunk 55/Norwich City – Brentford 1-3 (0-1)/Pukki 90+2 – Toney 32, 52 pen, 58 pen/Wolverhampton Wanderers – Crystal Palace 0-2 (0-2)/Mateta 19, Zaha 34 pen/Liverpool – West Ham United 1-0 (1-0)/Mane 27/SundayWatford – Arsenal 2-3 (1-2)/Cucho 11, SIssoko 87 – Odegaard 5, Saka 30, Martinelli 52/19:30: (1.40) Man.City (4.50) Man.Utd.
