KCB’s winless run in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League was extended to five games on the trot as the Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno coached side settled for a 1-1 stalemate against top flight debutants Kenya Police in a Tuesday encounter staged at the Kasarani Annex. In a match that Police took an early lead in the second minute, the last season runners up battled in salvaging a point as they scored their first goal in five matches.”I am a bit disappointed because we controlled the game the entire 90 minutes and got a lot of easy scoring chances which we did not convert forcing us to settle for a draw that cost us two dropped points,” KCB’ Zico bemoaned.”We started well in the game and progressed really well. KCB managed to get the equalizer through our very own mistake because we lost the ball and we did not close down the spaces afterwards. That is the very same problem that has been plaguing us and all season long,” Police head coach John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla remarked. In search of revenge after losing the first leg encounter between the two sides, Police got off to a dream start as KCB old boy David Simiyu returned to haunt his former side when he latched on sluggish play by Nahashon Alembi who failed to make up his mind as the attacker closed on the build up from behind. The striker pouncing on the mistake before unleashing a low shot that caught Job Ochieng’ unaware between the sticks. From that moment, the law enforcers dropped back to defend their lead as they allowed the Bankers to dominate all the proceedings.Having not scored in their last four matches before the game, KCB heeded the call as they went in search of an equalizer. Despite being able to curve up the clearest chances of the game, their attempts to restore parity were met by an equally alert defensive line and a goalkeeper.Diminutive left back David ‘Messi’ Owino cleared off Sydney Lokale’s goal bound header off the line as Job made a crucial fingertip save to deny KCB yet again as Police held onto the slender lead at the interval.Just four minutes upon the second half’s resumption, Police’s luck ran out as Samuel Mwangi found himself well positioned in the box as he fired home the equalizer.Still, Police failed to get out of their counter attacking strategy as they allowed KCB more space and time on the ball.A scary moment ensued in the game in the 73rd minute as KCB goalkeeper Gabriel Andika was rushed to the hospital after suffering a hefty collision with Simiyu who was chasing down an aerial ball. There was however time left for some drama as Cornelius Juma’s reckless tackle on James Mazembe was punished with a red card that reduced Police to 10 men but it was not enough to alter the scoreline as the game ended in a draw.
