Bayern’s legend furious: ‘They lick Lewa’s a** every day’

After last night’s hat-trick against RB Salzburg in the Champions League, Robert Lewandowski is in the headlines. Again. The Polish striker hardly ever comes off the main news anyway, for various reasons. First he was there because he scored 40 goals for the seventh consecutive season, then because he ended a sponsorship deal with Chinese giants Huawei due to their ties with Russia and now he is on the front pages again, but this time due to his (potential) contract extension. And Bayern’s former player is furious because of Lewandowski’s attitude. Bayern grinds poor Salzburg as Lewa scores a hat-trick for the new Champions League recordLewa’s contract with the Bavarians is due to end in 2023, so the extension must happen in the next few months, as Bayern doesn’t want the negotiations to drag on and allow the Pole to become a free agent in January 2023 and leave for free, like David Alaba. But even after all these years, Lewandowski didn’t want to commit to his club straight away, but rather gave a two-way comments. And that didn’t sit well with Bayern’s legendary footballer Mario Basler. Former right midfielder played three years for the Bavarians (1996-1999) and scored two Bundesliga titles and now, he is furious with Pole’s attitude. “What else do you need to feel valued? In the club, they are always positive about him, signaling that they want to extend the contract with him. He earns by far the most in the team. They lick his ass every day. What else do you want? To have your toenails cut? Even Gerd Mueller or Franz Beckenbauer did not have as much recognition in Bayern as Lewandowski. Nobody has been appreciated as much as he has been before” said Basler to Sport1’s Fantalk. And every time he needed to extend the contract, he was always non-comital, looking for a bigger wage. And Basler had an advice for Lewandowski. “Now he has to say on his own: ‘I’m going to sign for two years, after that I’ll stop.’ But bowing to his every whim gives me a fit. I think they’re in talks behind the scenes, but Lewandowski alone is not Bayern Munich” said Basler.
