First half goal from Yema Mwamba’ moved Kakamega Homeboyz nine points clear at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table as well as earned the team the bragging rights of the Ingo Derby after the Bernard Mwalala coached side edged Vihiga Bullets 1-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.Mwamba’s strike saw the club also complete a q league double over the debutants as the first leg ended 3-2 in their favour.David Okoth will be guilty of wasting the opportunity to give Homeboyz the lead in the fourth minute after dispossessing Morphat Liuva in the box only to fire straight Benard Otieno who needed medication after pulling the save. Luiva, a former Homeboyz player was caught off guard by the lurking Okoth who snatched the ball from his feet but could not beat Otieno who put his chest on the line to save his side from conceding early. The early scare was supposed to serve as a wake-up call to Bullets but instead invited more pressure by sitting deep in their area in a bid to contain the pressure from the hosts who were in search for early goals. Homeboyz winger Michael Isabwa tried to punish his former side in the tenth minute when he pulled the trigger from the edge of the box but Otieno’s height came in handy as he gathered the ball with ease.Bullets recovered from the nervous start and began to advance to the Homeboyz area as the match progressed and would nearly go ahead through Rashid Kyambadde in the 21st minute but his half volley went off the target with Godfrey Oputi well beaten. Homeboyz reacted to the scares from Bullets by grabbing the lead through Yema Mwamba who fired past Otieno outside the area in the 24th minute after picking a loose ball. Perhaps buoyed by the defeating chants from the stands painted yellow, Homeboyz players camped in the Bullets area in search of the second goal and went to the breather with the slim advantage under their belts. Three minutes after restart, Bullets head coach Abdallah Juma made double changes where the experienced duo of Philip Muchuma and Patrick Okulo came in for Kyambadde and Kevin Mwavali respectively. However, the two changes had little impact as the host continued to enjoy large spells of dominance and created better chances prompting Juma to bring in Brayan Sifuna for Kevin Sagida in the 59th minute.Homeboyz also made two changes in the 65th minute where Raymond Murugi and Gaetan Masha replaced Stephen Opoku and Isabwa respectively. The instructions from Juma to his defence seemed to work to the script as Bullets thwarted the missiles directed to their area and also tried to catch the Homeboyz defence flat-footed via the counterattacks but were unable to successfully execute a move.
