Defiant Caretaker Committee pushing on despite branches snub

FKF Caretaker Committee head of Leagues and Competitions Ali Amour says the country must move forward and expressed confidence in finding a way forward for Kenyan football. His remarks came after FKF Branches snubbed a meeting convened by the caretaker committee on Wednesday. The Aaron Ringera-led committee had invited the 20 branches for a meeting at their Nyayo National Stadium offices. Only Kisii Branch chairman Jezreel Mbegera and a representative of the Nairobi East Branch showed up at Nyayo for the meeting that eventually aborted.Prior to the branches now-show, Murang’a Branch chairman Robert Macharia had warned that they were not going to meet an entity not recognized by world football governing body this was in reference to the FKF caretaker committee’s disapproval by the Gianni Infantino led body.FKF Caretaker Committee’s meeting with FKF Branches had to be canceled after only one branch showed up.Only Kisii Branch chairman Jezreel Mbegera showed up at Nyayo Stadium.#KEFootball pic.twitter.com/CePo0wioYA— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) March 9, 2022 Despite being left with an egg on the face on Wednesday, Amour said the laws of the land remain supreme and added that they hope to find a way forward for Kenyan football in the coming days.“It is true Fifa statutes actually exist but there is no single day they will ever be supreme to the Kenyan Constitution. Football must be played at the end of the day, the country must move forward and so we hope to find a lasting solution in the coming days,” he stated.Last month, FIFA moved to suspend Kenya indefinitely over third party interference, this is after the government disbanded FKF an appointed the caretaker committee to run football activities in the country and later pave way for the election of new office bearers.Among the conditions FIFA gave that would result in Kenya’s readmission is the return of acting president Doris Petra and General-Secretary Barry Otieno into office.
