No goal for Olunga in Duhail’s final league game

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga is firmly on course to being crowned the Qatar Stars League top scorer with 24 goals. Although the Kenyan took part minimally in the final match of the season for Al Duhail as they played to a barren draw with Al Ahli Doha this evening, only featuring in the last 25 minutes, it is unlikely that the second-placed Andre Ayew or the Ghanian’s teammates at Al Said Akram Afif and Baghdad Bounedjah will score 10 and 11 goals respectively in their final match on Friday against Al-Wakrah to topple off Olunga.Kenyan International Michael Olunga came in the second half for Al Duhail as they played to a barren draw Al Ahli Doha this evening in what was the club’s last league game in Qatar this season #StarsAbroad pic.twitter.com/mG3BTDp3AZ— Jeff Kinyanjui (@Nyash88) March 10, 2022 During the pre-match briefing on Tuesday, Duhail’s coach Castro had said there would be changes to the squad that would play in the final match of the league campaign and stuck by his words benching a couple of his key players including the Kenyan and former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld. The former Gor Mahia forward was introduced for the final 25 minutes alongside Edmilson Junior and Ahmed Mawla for Rashid Al Abdulla, Karim Boudiaf, and Mohammed Alaaeldin but could not find the net in those minutes for his 25th goal of the season.👍🏾😁 @OgadaOlunga pic.twitter.com/iDUsypkBT9— Edmilson junior (@EdmilsonJr221) March 2, 2022 Olunga kick started the campaign on a high, grabbing a brace against Al Khor in the opening match of the season before hitting five past Al-Sailiya off the bench as he marked his return from an injury that saw him miss two rounds, and followed the five with one against Al-Rayyan.He then scored next from the spot against Al Shamal, hit one against Qatar SC, and a brace against the champions Al- Sadd as he went on a three-game scoring streak. His next goal was against AL-Ahli Doha, then another brace against Al-Arabi and a goal each against Al-Gharafa and Al-Sailiya in January this year.In February, he was in his best form as he scored three consecutive braces against Al-Rayyan, Al Shamal, and Qatar Sc in the league, before scoring his final goal of the season at the beginning of March against Umm-Salal
