Red and white vipers bite when cornered! Cadiz attacked at Metropolitano, but it’s Atletico who take the spoils

Venomous snakes will only bite if they feel threatened. Cadiz made the mistake of threatening Atletico Madrid at their Wanda Metropolitano stadium and paid the ultimate price in an eventful La Liga clash on Friday night. Argentinean midfielder Rodrigo De Paul scored what looked like an unlikely winner after Alvaro Negredo had cancelled out Joao Felix’s early opener in a match where Diego Simeone’s team allowed their visitors to pass the ball around and seemingly control the game before injecting their venom.🇵🇹 João Félix has been involved in seven goals in his last seven games for Atletico Madrid. ⚽️ vs Cadiz ⚽️⚽️ vs Real Betis ❌ vs Celta Vigo ⚽️ vs Manchester United ⚽️🅰️ vs Osasuna ❌ vs Levante 🅰️ vs Getafe Look back at it. #Atleti pic.twitter.com/EWRVyV52Mb— Mozo Football (@MozoFootball) March 11, 2022 Even though Cadiz were in the bottom three ahead of this match in the Spanish capital, they were determined to be proactive with the ball and not just try to make it out of Wanda Metropolitano with a goalless draw. Although, to be fair, holding onto a goalless draw as an option went through the window quite early on. Just three minutes into the game, Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma made a huge error. He tried to pass to his defender Victor Chust but has instead gifted the ball to Joao Felix, who had an easy task of tucking it into the net. It was his fifth goal in eight games.Despite the early setback, coach Sergio Gonzalez didn’t give up on his ideas and got his team to play bravely and control the ball. It was as if the Atleti were stunned by the audacity of La Liga newcomers.¡Qué cierre del primer tiempo! 😱Con 36 años de juventud, Negredo empata el partido.😅 pic.twitter.com/4bJVQOkxpS— ESPN Deportes (@ESPNDeportes) March 11, 2022 Veteran striker Alvaro Negredo is relishing matches like this. Always ready for a physical fight against strong defenders, the former Manchester City attacker was dangerous throughout and he got his goal just before the break when he steered a fine header past Jan Oblak.Atletico have to thank VAR officials for not being left with a man down. Their Brazilian midfielder Reinaldo went in two-footed at Ruben Alcaraz and was sent off straight away. But somehow, after checking the video evidence, referee Gonzalez Fuertes overturned his decision and showed Reinaldo the yellow card instead.Diego Simeone substituted on Luis Suarez and Angel Correa in place of Antoine Griezmann and Yannick Carrasco in search of some attacking fire and it paid off less than ten minutes later. Suarez laid the ball off for Correa, whose shot was only parried by Ledesma. The ball fell perfectly for Rodrigo De Paul to steady himself and hammer the ball into the back of the net for his first Atletico goal. It was desperately harsh on Cadiz, but Los Colchoneros were ahead once again.Atletico’s centre-back Jose Gimenez had to be alert and clear the ball off the line after Oblak had misjudged a punch and allowed Luis Hernandez to get a shot off. But the red and whites held on and managed to secure the points that keep them in the chase for second-placed Sevilla as their charismatic manager El Cholo Simeone fired up the home crowd by asking them to lift the noise levels.
