Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has opened the bidding process for member countries hoping to host the various tournaments in the region in the 2022 season and will close on March 18, 2022.Kenya hosted the inaugural CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers last season but will not be in a position to bid for any of the six competitions up for grabs at the moment as it is currently serving a FIFA suspension for government interference.The six tournaments that will be up for bidding include AFCON U-17 qualifiers, AFCON U-20 qualifiers, CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers, Pan African School qualifiers, CECAFA Kagame Cup, and the CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup.Uganda to host CECAFA Senior Women’s ChampionshipCECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo advised member countries wishing to bid for more than one competition to ensure that they complete different bid documents for the different competitions.“Kindly be advised that if a Member Association is bidding to host more than one competition, they should fill and complete a different bid document for each of the competitions,” explained Gecheo as quoted on CECAFA’s website.After bidding is done, CECAFA’s Executive Committee is expected to shortlist the bids on March 21, 2022 and consequently announce the hosts of the six tournaments two days later.CECAFA will today draw the 2022 calendar during the Annual General Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania. pic.twitter.com/FwYOxQ5qxr— Cecafaonline (@Cecafaonline) February 25, 2022 Uganda will host this year’s CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship after being handed the rights during CECAFA’s Annual General Assembly held last month in Tanzania and attended by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba.Alongside Uganda, Kenya had expressed interest in hosting the tournament that was set to take place last year but did not after Djibouti pulled out of playing hosts but the suspension made it easy for the regional body to settle on Uganda.
