Fights, misses, five goals and lots of diving! Granada win relegation six-pointer at Alaves

Granada beat Deportivo Alaves 3-2 in a mad La Liga match at Estadio Mendizorrotza in Vitoria after a 90 minutes of tension that felt like it was going to explode any minute. We’ve seen two comebacks, a missed penalty from the home side, a fight deep in injury time as the red and whites got away with a potentially priceless victory.

After former Stoke City and Newcastle striker Joselu won a first-half penalty and missed it, the teams went to the break goalless, leaving the relegation-fearing home crowd unsuspecting of what was going to unfold in the second 45 minutes.Three goals in 15 minutes changed the match and the state of the La Liga relegation battle. Firstly, Escudero emphatically volleyed first-time into the top corner from just inside the box to give Granada a lead just after the break. It took Alaves only two minutes to hit back, with Gonzalo Escalante heading home from close-range to level.

The goal lifted the blue and whites in the stands and they roared their team on in this must-win game. And sure enough, they managed to score again and get the lead after a Manu Vallejo close-range finish. It was finally going well – but it was to turn sour.Antonio Puertas headed the equaliser for Granada in controversial fashion, with a VAR check needed to determine whether the ball crossed the line, and the comeback was complete with four minutes to play, when Luis Suarez tapped in at the back post to secure a first win in 11 league matches for Granada.🇨🇴 LUIS SUÁREZ LE DIO LA VICTORIA AGÓNICA A GRANADA👏 Fue 3-2 ante Alavés en la fecha 29 de #LaLigaxESPN⚽ Escudero, 🇦🇷 Escalante, Vallejo y Puertas marcaron los otros tantos🇦🇷 Tenaglia y 🇻🇪 Machís⬇️ El conjunto derrotado está en zona de descenso pic.twitter.com/MJpwMaXwdg— SportsCenter (@SC_ESPN) March 19, 2022 Deep in injury time, the nervous hosts couldn’t keep their head and were provoked by the Granada substitutes.
