Once again, referees and the appointing authority are on the spot after the officials who were to man the National Super League match pitting Muhoroni Youth and Murang’a Seal failed to show up at Muhoroni Stadium.Last weekend, the clash between Seal and league debutants Naivas that was supposed to be played at St. Sebastian Park was called off after the referees gave the match a wide berth. Unconfirmed reports indicated that the referees failed to show up at St. Sebastian citing security reasons and unsuccessfully pushed for the match to be played at Thika Stadium.FT: ZOO – KBS : 2 – 1Not a bad game. Our players tried their best but it was not enough today… pic.twitter.com/1IePyydGgD— Kibera Black Stars (@Kiberablackstar) March 19, 2022 According to a Muhoroni Youth player who requested for his identity to be concealed, both teams arrived at the stadium, warmed up for the match but there were no officials on sight. “We played our role as a team but unfortunately, the match days officials did not show up. We were told later that they had elected not to show up for some reasons which were not shared with us,” he said. His version was corroborated by a Seal player who was at pains to explain the frustration of hitting the road from Murang’a to Muhoroni only for the match to be called off.”After the warm up, we waited for close for an hour but the referees did not show up. We had to painfully change and make peace with the fact we would return home without playing our host,” he said.It remains unclear on whether the officials made their threat of downing tools in protest for delayed payments or were not satisfied with the level of security provided by the host.Kenyan referees issue strike notice after Caretaker Committee frustrationsEfforts to have a word with the Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee’s head of referees Titus Kasuve were futile. In the other four matches that were played on Saturday, Zoo FC made good use of home advantage to beat Kibera Black Stars 2-1.
