AFC Leopards new boy Cliff Nyakeya is a relieved player following his eventual debut on Sunday against Kenya Police FC, two months after he was acquired by the Patrick Aussems coached team. The winger and three other new signings (John Makwata, Victor Omune, and Josphat Lopaga) made their debuts on Sunday as second-half substitutes in a match that Mwakata canceled out an Elvis Rupia strike to earn Leopards a point in a one-all draw. The new signings’ registration had been delayed due to a transfer embargo that was slapped on the team by FIFA for allegedly reneging on an agreed payment plan with their former captain Soter Kayumba who has reported the club to the world football governing body over breach of contract. Ingwe then condemned the defender over what they termed as false accusation and FIFA went ahead to side with Leopards. The new players finally got their cards from the FKF Caretaker Committee on Friday and were named in Sunday’s matchday squad. For Nyakeya, a former Wazito FC player it was a relief to play again after four months in the cold.“I am really happy because it was four months since I last played competitive football and when I learned that we had been registered I felt really good and today I got an opportunity to play, we got a point which is not bad we will now build on that going forward,” he said.Penalty for Leopards after Cliff Nyakeya is fouled in the area .. On loan Police striker John Makwata to take.#FKFPL— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) March 20, 2022 He went on to win the penalty from which Makwata scored but he believes that he is still lagging behind in terms of match fitness.“I believe that the thing that I need to improve on is my match-fitness, normal training does not give you match fitness but I am confident that I will get it with time. The important thing is that I will now get an opportunity to play because it has been really frustrating watching from the sidelines,” he added. The Harambee Stars winger added that he wants to play a part in helping Ingwe rise again.“AFC Leopards is a big team, it is a team with great history and I am here to play my part in improving the team. Hopefully, we will be able to perform well going forward,” he added.Leopards will take on the law enforcers for the return leg in a fortnight’s time. The match will be staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.
