Most of the best players in the world are in Austin, Texas, for the 2022 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play this week, and with fans finally back, the merchandise game at Austin Country Club has stepped up to meet the challenge, with plenty of items paying homage to Harvey Penick, who was the club’s first pro.
Also, there are plenty of shirts from the William Murray Golf, which has its headquarters on 7th Street in downtown Austin, just a block from one of the country’s most notorious party strips.
Designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1984, Austin Country Club has been the event host since 2016. The club was founded in 1899, but moved from one course to another before Dye built the club its third course, which is tied for fifth in Texas on Golfweek’s Best list of private clubs. It also ties for No. 88 on Golfweek’s Best list of modern courses built in or after 1960 in the U.S.
