Plaudits pour in for ex Gor, Leopards midfielder working wonders in NSL

Fortune Sacco head coach Nicodemus Omasete has lauded experienced midfielder Joseph Wanyonyi for the impact he has had in the team and believes that he will be key to their promotion push. The former Tusker FC, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards man joined the NSL side at the start of the season and went on to become a key player for the league leaders who are eyeing promotion to the top log for the first time ever this season. In an interview, Omasete who is keen on guiding the team to the top tier this season after narrowly missing out last year lauded the Aspire Academy graduate. He says the player settled in fast and is now an important figure for the Kirinyaga-based club.”He is a seasoned player and I think that he still has a lot to offer. When he came in, he took a short while to understand our style of play and after that he has been very good in almost each and every game, in the last five games he has scored two goals and set three others and that speaks volumes about his ability, ” Omasete told Mozzart Sport. It’s neck to neck at the Betika national super league summit, as one goal separates APS Bomet and Fortune SACCO.How’s your team doing?#NSL#TheGamePlan pic.twitter.com/Pxue2qs6Am— Carol Radull (@CarolRadull) March 21, 2022 Omasete believes that Wanyonyi’s experience will come in handy in the push for promotion this season.”When you want to achieve a big thing like promotion in our case, you need such players on board because they have seen a lot in football and will help and encourage the young and less experienced ones in the team. So for me, having Wanyonyi is a really good thing, and I want to encourage him to keep pushing and keep improving because he is such an important player for us, “he added.Despite being at the top of the log, Omasete admits that the push for promotion is far from comfortable.“The goal is definitely to get promoted automatically this season but it is far from a comfortable promotion push because when you look at the table, it is tight, one or two defeats and you can easily drop out of the top three positions and we are trying our best to ensure that we remain in contention throughout the season. I have a good team, the players understand what we want to achieve this season and we will keep working to achieve our target for the season” he stated.Next for Fortune is a home match against Naivas.
