The Arizona State women did what they do best: defend home turf.
The Sun Devils swept both the team and individual titles at their 2022 PING/ASU Invitational in historic fashion, shooting 25-under 839 as a team to tie the lowest score in program history. Their 15-shot win over the likes of No. 2 Oregon and No. 1 Stanford is their largest margin of victory at the PING/ASU. It’s the 13th time Arizona State has swept both titles.
Before competing in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Alexandra Forsterling beat out teammate Ashley Menne and UCLA’s Emma Spitz at 9 under to claim the win by two shots.
“Could not be more proud of this team for the way they played this weekend,” said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye via a release. “What an outstanding performance by (Forsterling). She remained calm under pressure and finished strong.”
Six Sun Devils finished inside the top 30.
“It’s always fun to win with the team. The girls played so great, and we had some awesome rounds the last few days,” added Forsterling. “But, winning by 15 shots is amazing. We really proved ourselves. We all knew that we could do it and we finally did it.”
