World football governing body, FIFA has ratified the suspension of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following a landslide poll by the FIFA Council Members on Thursday, March 31.The suspension remains indefinite as it will be lifted once the Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee is ousted and the previous FKF regime reinstated in office.BREAKING FIFA Council Members ratifies the suspension of Football Kenya Federation until the FKF Caretaker Committee is removed and ousted FKF office holders reinstated. 198 members voted for Kenya’s suspension while one member voted against. #FIFACongress pic.twitter.com/nARu9FZy2g— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) March 31, 2022 A total of 198 FIFA Member Associations voted in favour of Kenya being suspended while only a single member voted for the country to avoid the suspension.FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the suspension will be lifted immediately after Kenya reinstates the ousted Football Kenya Federation which was disbanded by the government on grounds of misappropriation of funds.”The FIFA council suspended Kenya on February 24th with immediate effect due to third party interference in particular the take over of football by a Caretaker Committee appointment by the government which is a serious violation of the FIFA statues.It is therefore recommended that the Congress confirms the suspension of the Football Kenya Federation enabling the council to lift the suspension immediately and as soon as the pertinent requirements have been fulfilled,” said Infantino.🚨JUST IN🚨The Fifa council has confirmed the suspension of Kenya through a voting process and the suspension will only be lifted once Kenya complies with the Fifa statutes.#FFP— Friends of Football (@friendsofutball) March 31, 2022 FIFA Secretary-General Fatma Samoura highlighted some of the implications of the suspension with the country yet to be slapped with a ban.”The Council has confirmed the suspension of the Football Kenya Federation meaning that the federation is not entitled to vote at this congress and is also not authorized to exercise any of it’s membership rights,” said Samoura.Also joining Kenya in the suspension list is Zimbabwe who were a no show at the FIFA Congress conferred in Qatar and Pakistan who have been suspended for a year now.
