Despite the looming exit of two key defenders, the APS Bomet head coach Charles Odera says their absence in the remainder of the season will not deter them fighting for automatic promotion to top flight football.Bomet will have to do without the services of their arguably longest serving players; Chris Wilunda and Dominic Kipkirui as the duo are set to report to the Administration Police Training College, Embakasi on Monday. Lady luck visited the two in the course of the week as they were picked to join the paramilitary side formally at the Kitui camp where they settled to prepare for this Saturday’s league clash against MCF. Bomet had to find a temporary home to prepare for the game as they had a tough outing down to the coast where they beat Mombasa Elite 1-0 on Monday at the Mbaraki Stadium. According to Odera, Kipkirui, joined the club seven years ago, one ahead of Wilunda who was named the second best defender in last year’s end of season awards behind Portipher Odhiambo. From child labour to football stardom – This is Moses Mudavadi’s storyOdera who is barely three weeks old at the club regretted that he will carry on without their input but expressed confidence in their understudies in plugging in the gaps left in the defence.”I would have loved to have them in the remaining matches but we will use the available players. We wish them nothing but all the best as they head to the training camp. Our objective of the season does not change just because we have lost two key players. Their exit leaves their potential replacements with the challenge of proving themselves that they are equal to the task, ” said the former Chemelil Sugar boss.Odera who replaced Benedict Wanjala last month while reacting to the news that the duo had nailed down permanent employment said the development will motivate the rest of the civilians in the team to put extra efforts. He further noted that there was significant interest by upcoming players to join the club after the two were considered for employment. Bomet has six officers in the team.”The two served the team well and their efforts were dully rewarded. The rest of the civilians have been encouraged by the latest happenings in the team, the kind of attitude one should have as a player,” he said.
