Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala has dismissed the notion that they are favourites heading into Saturday’s league action against Ulinzi Stars at Bukhungu Stadium. The two teams met a fortnight ago in Thika for the first leg, a match that was settled by a Brian Eshihanda first-half header. Despite the soldiers’ spirited fight, they could not salvage anything out of the game.Homeboyz lead the league and have been backed by many to clinch the league title this season, their first-ever in history. Ahead of the game, Mwalala insists that they cannot afford to underrate the soldiers who are having one of their worst seasons in the top flight.“It is obviously going to be a tasking game because, as you know Ulinzi Stars has always been a solid team. Their current position on the table can be deceiving but you can never write off Ulinzi in this league, they are not underdogs and can always cause surprises,” Mwalala told Mozzart Sport.Throwback Thursday:Mention a face you recognize…#MozzartBet#wearehomeboyz#AbanaBeingo pic.twitter.com/CbZXvvULRL— Kakamega Homeboyz FC (@FcHomeboyz) March 31, 2022 He added that the players understand how tough their Saturday assignment is and expects them to respond positively.“The first leg in Thika was tough, they were on top of their game, particularly in the first half and we really had to toil for the three points. It did not come easy. The good thing is that the players understand just how tough it was in the first leg and that will help them approach tomorrow’s game with the seriousness it deserves, ” he added. On the injury front, Mwalala says he has all his players available for selection adding that all his squad members are ready to play.”We do not have any injury concern. All the players are available, we played two friendly matches last week and I can say that every player looks sharp and ready to play and it is just a matter of me getting the best 20 for any match Day. I think only the pecking order will see some sit out but they are all very ready and this is a good selection headache,” he added.
