After a 16-day break, the Women Premier League (WPL) returns with newbies Bunyore Starlets welcoming rivals Wadadia at Mumboha Stadium, on Saturday 2 April from 3 pm, in the only fixture of the day. The hosts are on a revenge mission, having suffered a massive six-goal loss in their first leg match against Wadadia. That match was Bunyore’s first in the top-tier. “We have used the break to get our house in order. We have been training, well aware that we are in the red zone and every point we get counts. The race is so close any points dropped means a few teams will move past and we want to avoid that,” offered head coach Daniel Arunga. Ahead of the second leg, the Vihiga-based side is hoping to bolster their squad with at least four new signings but the tactician says they may not be available for the Wadadia match as their paperwork is yet to be completed. “Some may be available, other may not. But we have looked at a few positions that needed to be strengthened, identified the players and they will be with the team for the second leg. UPDATE – Sunday’s #FKFWPL fixture between Zetech Sparks and Trans Nzoia Falcons will now be played at 11.00am. Venue remains GEMS Cambridge School. pic.twitter.com/rCzFlTdGqi— FKF Caretaker – Women (@fkfcc_women) April 2, 2022 We want to get the second leg off on a positive note so this is a revenge mission for us. In the first leg we were new to the league and inexperience played a role in the results posted then. We are going for maximum points,” added Arunga. On his part, Wadadia head coach Rashid Sumba says the break has been good as they have been in camp re-strategizing for the second half of the season. The side has, however, let go of three key players in Miriam Chelagat and Caroline Khaemba, the two decamping to Nakuru Queens while Cynthia Ngaira has joined military side Ulinzi Starlets. She will help Monica Odato in the position. More signings will be revealed in due time. As for the match today, we are ready and while we know it will be no walk in the park, we will fight for maximum points as we look to go up on the log and avoid relegation,” said Sumba.
