Liverpool earns a tough win and tops the Premier League table

It was a win, but a tough one. Liverpool managed to secure three points against relegation strugglers Watford and move above Manchester United to top the Premier League table, at least for a few hours. The Citizens are playing later in the day in Burnley, as another relegation bound team is facing a tough task to stop the current league champions. Jurgen Klopp’s side was not so effective in this match and didn’t create so many chances, but the guests were unable to use their opportunities and lost at Enfield: Liverpool – Watford. Since making his @LFC debut, no player has scored more headed goals in the #PL than Diogo Jota with seven 🤯#LIVWAT pic.twitter.com/qN0JmS72dm— Premier League (@premierleague) April 2, 2022 The fact that the Reds had only 3 shots on target speak enough for itself, while the final score 2-0 was achieved only in the 89th minute, when Fabinho smashed the ball from the penalty spot (Salah was already substituted). Until then, it was 1-0 and while Liverpool had field possession, Watford were looking for possible mistakes and opportunities to maybe steal a point (or three). And they will be angry with themselves, because they had two great ones, more than enough against a tough team like Liverpool. The first chance came just seconds before Liverpool took the lead. A quick counter-attack threatened Alisson, who was forced to come out and make a great save to deny Kucka. 15 seconds later it was 1-0 for the Reds, because 1.78cm tall Diogo Jota scored (again) with his head, after a great cross from Gomez. This was his 7th header since he came to England and was eventually enough for three points, before the eventual penalty at the end of the game. Watford again had a great opportunity, this time to level the score, just at the beginning of the second half. It was a huge miss from the Hornets, or more precise Pedro, who got the perfect ball from Sarr and had the time and room for a great shot, but managed it only wide. A series of half-chances followed, and Liverpool were not so eager to score the second goal, but more to secure their net. VAR confirmed that Kucka fauled Jota and the penalty was given, just to confirm Liverpool’s victory.
