AFC Leopards ended their four-match winless run with a 3-0 win over Kenya Police FC in an entertaining FKF Premier League match staged at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.The two teams had met for the first leg a fortnight ago, a match that ended goalless. Youngster Giovanni Lukhumwa started in the defensive midfield position while new signings John Makwata, Cliff Nyakeya and Victor Omune formed a three-man attack. In the absence of left-back Washington Munene, Lewis Bandi slotted to the left side of defence with Peter Thiong’o replacing him on the right. Tedian Esilaba made his first start of the season in central defence in the absence of injured Robert Mudenyu. Blow for Leopards as midfielder moves to SwedenThe law enforcers looked enterprising in the opening stages of the game with some quick build up from back but Levis Opiyo on Leopards goal severally came on top to clear the dangers before Police’s pointman Elvis Rupia could pounce.Ingwe were reduced to defending deeply and trying to beat Police on the break and one such moves yielded the opening goal in the 18th minute. Brian Wanyama collected the ball deep in midfield before setting up Lewis Bandi on the left, the defender raced down the flank before crossing the ball to Victor Omune for an easy finish.The goal seemed to have revitalised Leopards who looked like an entirely new outfit, they went all out in search of more goals with Police looking rattled. Police had a good chance in the 39th minute but Clifton Miheso’s freekick went straight into Levis Opiyo’s waiting arms.Four minutes before the break, Leopards got a second of the game. Bandi initiated the move setting up Omune on the left, the winger then squared the ball to a waiting Eugene Mukangula who fired home with a plomb. Leopards took a 2-0 lead to the interval.Police made a switch after the interval, taking off an off color Harun Shakava for Charles Ouma. Duncan Otieno moved to the heart of defence with Ouma replacing him in the middle of the park. The attacker would finally get into the score sheet in the 57th minute. They reduced Police to chasing shadows. The law enforcers had a couple of chances late on but Levis Opiyo denied Clinton Kinanga and Lesley Otieno in quick succession.In the end, Patrick Aussems left Nyayo Stadium with three much-deserved points.
