The country’s second-tier National Super League (NSL) is set to go for a one week break after the government installed Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker Committee heeded to rising calls from teams participating in the league to have a midseason break owing to financial challenges among other reasons.Towards the end of March, Migori Youth Chairman Aziz Osman Abdi was one of the voices who petitioned the Committee to consider at least a three-week break after the first leg of the campaign.“As the first leg of the 2021-2022 season comes to an end this weekend…we recommend at least a 3-week break to allow our players, technical bench and clubs to rest, restrategize and plan for the 2nd leg,”Migori Youth chairman petitions Caretaker Committee for a three-weeks break“Many Clubs are struggling financially and are at the brink of collapsing due to the current situation that has led to many sponsors and stakeholders pulling out their support due to the uncertainties and the economic challenges. Therefore, a break will be important to allow both the Clubs and the committee to look at the gains and losses so far,” Aziz posted in a letter seen by Mozzart Sport. Those sentiments were endorsed by Fortune Sacco head coach Nicodemus Omasete and Shabana FC head Sammy Okoth among others.#NSL Shabana go third with victory in Bomet https://t.co/Hx58tJtUSo pic.twitter.com/c8fDh5UDQW— FKFcaretaker (@FKFcaretaker) April 4, 2022 Following those pleas, Ali Amour, the Competitions and Compliance Chairman at the committee revealed that the wishes of the teams would be granted.“Clubs called for a mid-season break and we have considered their request to enable them improve on weak areas and restrategize for the second leg.
