Vihiga Queens are chasing their fourth league title and what’s more they are keen to do it unbeaten. The three-time Women Premier League (WPL) champions lead the 2021/22 league chase at 34 points, nine more than second placed Ulinzi Starlets. 2021-2022 FKF Women Premier League Table Standings as at Tuesday, April 05, 2022.#VihigaQueens#LegacyMakers pic.twitter.com/4yEbgUj9Ql— Vihiga Queens FC (@Vihigaqueens) April 6, 2022 In 12 matches played so far, the Boniface Nyamunyamu-led side has lost two points and are looking to pick maximum points in the remaining matches for the title. Vihiga are set to unveil four new players on Wednesday as the technical bench looks to bolster the squad ahead of a tough second leg. “We are in the process of making four additions to the team. All four have no experience in the top tier league so they have some learning to do. They are, however, good players here to add to our depth as opposed to replacing anyone that has left recently. We have also roped in a defender and a goalkeeper,” offered Nyamunyamu. On the weekend, Nyamunyamu’s charges picked a 1-0 win away to Nakuru Queens but the tactician maintains there is no cause to worry. “We expected the Nakuru match to be tough. They have made good signings in the mid-season break and they have always been a good side. There no cause to worry. Going forward, a win of any kind is highly welcome as we are only fighting to maintain our nine-point advantage from here on,” added the tactician. Nyamunyamu maintain that being unbeaten and at the top puts them under no pressure and instead serves as motivation to keep going for the prize, despite the knowledge that they have targets on their backs.Ulinzi looking to challenge Vihiga for WPL titleAs the second leg gets underway, the side will have to make do without the services of top scorer Terry Engesha who has since left the country for a pro deal in South Korea. “Her absence upfront will definitely be felt. She is a hard worker and a fighter who we cannot purport ti be replacing with any of the new signings. We, however, have depth upfront and I am confident those who have been left to do duty will deliver,” the coach said. Nyamunyamu was, however, quick to note that the side is not feeling the effects of Lilian Awuor’s exig as their first choice shot stopper. “Diana Tembesi has been in the team all along, deputising Awuor and she has the experience to handle the department well,” he explained.
