Bandari FC goalkeepers’ trainer Wilson Obungu believes long travels have hurt their team’s title charge with the Mombasa based club having to travel for long distances for all their away games. The Dockers currently sit in eighth position in the log with 37 points, at the start of the season, tey were touted as one of the favorites for the title but a run of ten games without a win saw them drop out of the race and coach Andre Cassa Mbungo had to leave, his assistant Anthony Kimani took over on interim basis.Kakamega Homeboyz currently lead the FKF Premier League with 52 points and have a cushion of ten points with ten matches to go. Five points separates second-placed Tusker and Bandari in what has proven to be a very competitive season and despite admitting that the long travel are hurting his team, the former Kenyan international is enjoying the competitiveness of this season’s race.“If you ask me, this is how the league should be, very competitive. The tricky part for us this season however has been traveling, we travel a lot. The closest we travel to for a league match is to Wundanyi to play Sofapaka, that is if they decide to host us in Wundanyi, otherwise, we have to make a 600 kilometer trip to Nairobi for the closest away game,” he told Bonga Boli.Licha ya kukumbwa na majeraha kwa muda mrefu, Yohanna “Mbatizaji” Mwita amejikakamua na kuwahudumia wafuatao. They in fact share their Bukhungu home ground with Bullets.“When you look at Kakamega Homeboyz for example, they have a number of teams nearby. They have Vihiga Bullets and Nzoia Sugar nearby, they have Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru but for us we have to cover really long distances. It get more complicated because you could be in Kisumu on Saturday for a match and n Wednesday you are supposed to be in Mombasa for a home match and a few days later in Nairobi and as such we spend a lot of time traveling,” he added.
